Welcome
I'm Vogel, writer, multi-media artist and photographer on the Olympic Peninsula. I find and enhance moments of attention. I strive to bring subtle energies into focus.

“This is one of the reasons why the high plateau where these streams begin, the streams themselves, their cataracts and rocky beds, the corries, the whole wild enchantment, like a work of art is perpetually new when one returns to it. The mind cannot carry away all that it has to give, nor does it always believe possible what it has carried away.”

art workI started taking photos to create source material for my drawings and paintings. I soon appreciated photography as an equally valid way to notice and amplify and frame subtle moments in time and space. In addition to two dimensional work, I create nature journals, and I sculpt paper creations, and dabble in gel printing. (Photos of artwork to be posted soon).
Awenydd is a Celtic word that refers to someone who is a vessel or channel through which the spirit of creative energy flows. Awen is the name for flowing inspiration, poetic spirit, and the creative muse. Literally it refers to breath, or life spark, something akin to chi, and connected to a generative creative spirit.
My current literary sources of inspiration are Nan Shepherd, Mary Austin, and Rachel Carson. Their literary offspring, Suzanne Simard, Robin Wall-Kimmerer, Kathleen Dean Moore, and Terry Tempest Williams are also sources that guide my poetry and writing—women whose strength, resilience and tenacity bring meaning and a will to continue in the face of adversities. My artistic guides are Georgia O’Keeffe, Emily Carr, and Hilma af Klint. I am just getting to know photography, so I haven’t settled on anyone yet.
